Holmes 414

Housing is Elementary

Affordable housing should not be a mystery.  This is a case we can solve. Everyone needs a home, but not everyone wants to take care of a house, and many can’t.  Our city needs affordable housing for people.  Public housing is not being prioritized.  The Market is not serving the needs of our community.

Holmes 414 is a Non Market Housing Initiative.  Non market housing exists to provide affordable homes for members of the community, not to make a profit.  The purpose of Homes 414 is to remodel existing multi-family buildings, in a similar way to Habitat for Humanity with single family houses.  Rents will determined by the costs of the building; financing, taxes, insurance, etc.

The goal of Holmes 414 is to grow the number of buildings while increasing equity over time.  As financing is paid off rents could be adjusted based only operating and maintenance costs.  As equity grows with the number of buildings, it may become possible to build new buildings and/or take on section 8 public housing.

Holmes 414 seeks to establish a legacy in Milwaukee. The cornerstone of our communities are our homes. Not everyone wants to own a house and take care of it year round. However, everyone needs a home.
